I don’t see the gritty skin working well on a young female. Or a female generally. Ok on a man. Expresses too much roughness.

  That was my first attempt. Granted without color, but it shows what’s possible. A particular editing style will favor certain color and face better than the other. As my skill increases, I believe the face and color matters less.
  
  Just like this particular technique was supposed to be used on black people and people with a lot of wrinkles. I decided to use it on a white man.
